STRATEGIC AWARDS 2007-2008

The Environment

In May 2007 the Foundation commissioned two major demonstrator programmes in Tower Hamlets and Bristol (West Knowle) to investigate models for increasing the awareness of the public about environmental issues, recycling and global warming. The programmes are looking at how people can change their live styles and habits to save resources and make a contribution to reducing the economic cost of our society. Each programme is ecruting up to ten community champions to sponsor local projects that will qualify for Millennium awards and contribute to our learning about how ordinary people may play their part around environmental issues .

Crime

The Foundation is working with the Centre for Crime & Justice Studies to commission a two-year investigation of the public's perception of crime and how it differs from the government's perception of crime and the policies that follow from that perception.

Drugs

Following the success earlier this year of the Foundation-funded Royal Society of Arts Commission on illegal drugs in the community, the we are now investigating follow-up work on recommedations from the report. The aim is to build a consortium of funders to take the work forward across the UK.

GRANT FRAUD

The Wates Foundation takes a zero tolerance stance on grant fraud both at the application stage and later should an award be made.

Every successful fraud reduces the amount of funding available to genuine applicants and beneficiaries.

If you know where grant fraud is taking place please contact us. Your report will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
